Steven Teng graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, completing his Bachelor of Music (Performance) with violin pedagogue Dr Robin Wilson. He also completed advanced piano and pedagogy courses with Peter Wang. Steven is currently completing his Master of Teaching (Secondary) at UNSW. 

Steven was the Associate Dean of the Con Brio School of Music for ten years. During this time, his teaching was recognised through the school's winning of the AMEB most outstanding studio shields for many consecutive years in a row. This award recognises the strongest exam results across the whole state for that year. Steven also led masterclasses for students and pedagogy workshops for teachers.

Since 2017, Steven has been an examiner for Con Brio Examinations for Piano, Violin and Viola, an online examination platform.

While at the Sydney Conservatorium, Steven gained High Distinction across all his Harmony and Analysis studies and Advanced Harmony subjects, and Distinction in Strings Pedagogy (the art of teaching the violin), Aural Perception, Music History, Chamber Music and Orchestral Studies. Steven is very experienced in teaching theory/musicianship and preparing students for the aural and general knowledge components for practical exams.

Steven is an active pianist and violinist and has performed extensively throughout his years of studies, to share his love for music and develop his extensive repertoire. He was involved with The Arts Unit since 2007, where he has appeared as soloist with the orchestra, performing at the Salvation Army Congress Hall, and also taking on leadership roles in Orchestra at State Music Camp. He was also in the Symphony Orchestra, performing in venues including the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Town Hall. Steven also participated in Schools Spectacular in 2007-8, exploring pop music, diversifying his range of musical interests and performing at the Sydney Entertainment Centre.

Early 2009, Steven was involved with the Australian Youth Olympics Festival's Opening Ceremony held at the Sydney Entertainment Centre, where he appeared as a featured artist, performing Bonds' 'Explosive' with passion and energy.
Steven won the 2011 Edna Wilde Scholarship for most exciting performance for two or more instruments and the 2010 Galston Eisteddfod Instrumental championship, where his performance at the award ceremony received a standing ovation.
In December 2012, Steven gave a Recital in Taipei, Taiwan as a featured artist for the MIKI corporation.

Steven takes pride in his student's result. Students have gained their Diplomas with Distinction, multiple students achieving Distinction results (A+) in grade and certificate exams and also High Distinction results (95 – 100%) in their theory exams. 
His students have gone to win many 1st prizes from a range of different eisteddfods. Stevens patience and preparation for students have allowed them to also take out the title of a champion through success in Eisteddfod championships. Students of Stevens have also been awarded full music scholarships to prestigious private schools and gained entry into the Sydney Conservatorium of Music University and High School for further advanced musical training.
